                  The number of Jews in Australia has risen by five per cent over the last five years according to the latest national census, although the figures are believed to fall short of the actual number.
                  The 2001 study, conducted by the immigration, multicultural and indigenous affairs department, reported that 83,995 Australians described Judaism as their religion.

                  However, because many people decline to answer the optional religion question, the real figure is believed to be as high as 110,000.
