Melbourne businessman and Jewish community leader Joe Gutnick said today he was disappointed with the sentence given to convicted terrorist Jack Roche.
Roche, 50, was sentenced in Perth District Court yesterday to nine years in jail, with a non-parole period of four and a half years.
Having spent the past 18 months in custody awaiting trial, Roche could be eligible for release in May 2007.
Mr Gutnick, who was named as a possible terror target during the trial, said he thought the sentence should have been closer to the maximum 25 years.
"I'm disappointed and dismayed, especially (with) Australia gearing up for a possible terrorist attack for many reasons in the coming years," he told the Nine Network today.
