Jewish community leaders in Poland question validity of Council of Europe report

                  17.06.2005

Poland's Jewish community leaders have criticized a report by the Council of Europe which points to a strong increase in anti-Semitism. The report did not do justice to the country's efforts to improve Polish-Jewish dialogue. Community leaders say that the report was based on newspaper articles and not on actual fact-finding. The president of the Union of Jewish communities in Poland, Piotr Kadlczik, said that Poland was not any more anti-Semitic than other countries in the world. The Council of Europe plans to hold a round table discussion on anti-Semitism in Poland in November.
