U.S Senate Repeals Trade Restrictions Linking Ukraine

                  09.03.2006

On March 8, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill permanently repealing a Soviet-era trade restriction on Ukraine which link trade restrictions on the country to its treatment of Jews.
The bill will still need to pass the Senate and be signed by President George W. Bush in order to become law - both these actions are expected to follow quickly. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister is visiting Washington and Ukrainian Parliamentary elections are around the corner.
The government has made sweeping promises to tackle anti-Semitism in the country and just announced that it is committed to cracking down on the country
