Ukrainian synagogue vandalized for the fifth time this year

                  05.07.2006

A synagogue in the Ukrainian city of Kirovograd has been vandalized again. No one was hurt in the incident in which vandals threw stones at the Choral Synagogue on 23 June but which was made public only now. Local police are investigating the case but no arrests have been reported. According to local Jewish leaders, the incident was the fifth time in 2006 that the synagogue has been attacked. Vitaly Kakhnov, director of the Kirovograd charitable center Hesed Shlomo, told JTA that the community felt helpless to protect itself against the vandalism.
