Hungarian Minister of Education and Culture Dr. Istvan Hiller will visit Yad Vashem tomorrow, January 15, 2007. Joseph (Tommy) Lapid, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Council, and Avner Shalev, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate, will greet him.
During the course of his visit, the Minister will tour the Holocaust History Museum, lay a wreath in the Hall of Remembrance, and meet with senior staff at the International School for Holocaust Studies, who will brief the Minister on cooperation between the School and the Hungarian Ministry of Education. At the conclusion of the visit, an agreement of cooperation between the Hungarian Education Ministry and Yad Vashem will be signed.
The agreement outlines plans for continued cooperation between Yad Vashem and Hungary in planning and holding seminars for Hungarian educators in Israel and in Budapest, run by members of the School's European Department, The ICHEIC Program for Holocaust Education in Europe, as well as a special conference in Hungary for graduates of previous seminars for Hungarian educators held at Yad Vashem over the past decade.
