International Day of Commemoration to honour the victims of the Holocaust held in the UN representation in Azerbaijan.
25.01.2007 It was decided that the United Nations would designate 27 January-the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death campas an annual International Day of Commemoration to honour the victims of the Holocaust, and urged Member States to develop educational programmes to instil the memory of the tragedy in future generations to prevent genocide from occurring again, and requested the United Nations Secretary-General to establish an outreach programme on the "Holocaust and the United Nations", as well as measures to mobilize civil society for Holocaust remembrance and education, in order to help prevent future acts of genocide.

After the speech by Marko Borsotti, resident-coordinator, 13-minute film about the Holocaust was shown. Then Arthur Lenk, ambassador of Israel in Azerbaijan, and representative of Azerbaijan Ministry for Foreign Affairs Tair Tagizade commented the event to journalists.
In the end of event visitors have acquainted with the message of Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, which reads: "We should not only revere memory of victims, but also we ensure that new generations knew that has happened. We should remember lessons of the Holocaust and apply them in conditions of the modern world. We should put all our efforts so that all people could use those opportunities of protection and the rights for which the United Nations Organization acts".
