Belgian Jewish leader Julien Klener made a Baron.

                  08.05.2007

The president of Belgium's "Consistoire Central Israélite" (CCIB), Julien Klener, 67, has been made a baron by royal decree. Klener, a professor emeritus for Semitic Epigraphy at Ghent University and scholar of a number of ancient languages, has headed the CCIB since October 2000. Klener has written over a hundred books and articles on Jewish history and biblical-era languages. The CCIB is the official representative body of Belgian Jewry in religious matters. Synagogues and Jewish organizations affiliated with it may obtain state subsidies as officially recognized religious denominations.
