Dnepropetrovsk Jewish Community Hosted Israel Ambassador.
28.06.2007 Dnepropetrovsk recently hosted a three-day visit by Israel Ambassador Zina Kalai-Klaitman. Apart from meetings with the Regional and City Administrations to improve relations with Israel, the diplomat also saw many of the institutions run by the local Jewish community.
The 'Golden Rose' Synagogue hosted a gathering in her honor, during which time she learned about the development of Jewish life in the region and the development of community programs and infrastructure. She met with a group of young Jews participating in the 'STARS' program, as well as students from the Yeshivas operating in Dnepropetrovsk. She then visited the 'Beit Tzindlicht' Children's Educational Center, a Yeshiva, the Machon, and the 'Ohr Avner Levi-Itsakh Schneerson' Day School.
Her favourite stop was the 'Beit Baruch' Seniors' Home, where she was impressed to learn operates on a charitable basis. Apart from this, the Ambassador visited a number of other Jewish institutions, before participating in a ceremony for presenting the title of 'Righteous of Nations'. She awarded seven local families with medals from 'Yad Vashem'. The event also involved the region's Chief Rabbi Shmeul Kaminetsky and Chairman Grigory Korol.
The diplomat's visit culminated with a communal lunch hosted by the Jewish community of Dnepropetrovsk, which also involved leaders and activists in the revival of Jewish life in the city, in addition to other honored guests.
