                  Antisemitism discussed at PACE session.

                  29.06.2007

On Wednesday chairman of the Federation Council International Affairs Committee leader of fraction "European democrats" Mikhail Margelov spoke on antisemitism at a PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe). Particularly he stressed that antisemitism gets into a political and public life of the countries-members of the Council of Europe.
According to Margelov, "none of states, none of members of the Council of Europe are protected today. Antisemitism contradicts European values as these values do not suppose racial enmity, segregation and genocide". After having discussed the statistics and nature of anti-Semitic events in France, Germany, the Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Baltic and other post-soviet countries, he emphasized, that "today state antisemitism is absent in Russia ".
"Anti-Semitism in former communistic countries obtains European forms of "new antsemitism". Still European antisemites live on ideas of dictators and nationalists, be it Stalin, Hitler, Antonesku, Vichy or Horty, are" Mikhail Margelov concluded.
