Polish President Visits Synagogue.
23.12.2008 The President of Poland Lech Kaczynski visited a synagogue in Warsaw on the Jewish holiday of Chanukah. The Jewish community of Warsaw regards this visit a historic one, the Svoboda radio reported.
The last presidential visit was during the 1920's when Ignacy Moscicki visited a synagogue, but he did not stay for a religious service or talk to the believers. Three and a half million Jews used to live in Poland before the Second World War, when most of them were killed by the Nazis. President Lech Kachinsky is famous for his friendly relationship with the Polish Jewish community.
