Russia Deprives Israel of Chance to Attack Iran
23.12.2008
Russian S-300 missile launchers will let Iran repel any attack on its military objects, which leaves Israel practically without means to oppose Iran.
This is as claimed by a high-ranking officer of the US intelligence service, who commented on the beginning of realization of the agreement between Moscow and Tehran.
Russian military sources reported the day before yesterday that "S-300 missiles are intended for defence, and not for any offensive needs Iran might have".
At a press-conference in Moscow Rosoboronexport’s official spokesman Vyacheslav Davidenko stressed that Russia is currently supplying Iran with modern defence systems, in particular air defence facilities. Yet Davidenko did not mention the S-300 system.
As reported by Galei Tzahal radio station, the American administration demanded explanations from Russia about the supply of missile launchers to Tehran. In the opinion of US authorities, the deal has been concluded but has not yet been implemented.
Last week Head of the Diplomatic-Security Bureau of the Defense Ministry of Israel Amos Gilad visited Moscow. As reported earlier by Kursor, Gilad’s aim was to try to freeze the missile supply deal between Iran and Russia, which he evidently failed to achieve.
Additionally, Gilad held negotiations on the supply of Russian weapons to Syria and Lebanon. Last week it became known that the Russian government will supply 10 MiG-29 planes to Lebanon.
