                  Repatriation Gone Down By 20%.

                  24.12.2008

According to the Ministry of Absorption, around 15000 repatriates have come to Israel since the beginning of the year 2008, which is the lowest number in the last 19 years. The numbers of repatriates have decreased by 20% in comparison to the previous year.
The majority of the repatriates come from the CIS – 5331 person (compared to 6445 in 2007). Repatriation rates from North American countries are lowering as well – 2910 people, 35 % less than in the year 2007. The number of repatriates from Great Britain and Western Europe countries has decreased approximately by 20%, while that from Central and South America has decreased by 42%.
But there is also good news – the numbers of repatriates from SAR, Australia, New Zealand and India have slightly increased. The statistic data of the current year include 31 repatriates from Scandinavian countries, 14 from China, 6 from Japan, and 11 – from the Philippines.
It is significant that the Nefesh beNefesh organization has announced a program of incentive repatriation for Jews from North America. Anglo-Saxon repatriates to the Northern regions of Israel receive 100 thousand shekel as a present and free car rental for 2 years.
