Greek Press Blames Jews for Financial Crisis
24.12.2008
Athenian daily newspaper "Avriani" called the financial fraud of Bernard Madoff a "World Jewish conspiracy."
In a recent issue, the paper dedicated 5 pages to financial tycoon Bernard Madoff, whose stock market swindles did massive damage to the world financial market.
The author of the article called Madoff "The Jewish Guru" of the world financial system, and reminded the readers of his Jewish descent at least six times, hinting at the world financial crisis being a direct result of a Jewish conspiracy.
This is not the first time "Avriani" has shown its anti-Semitic orientation. After Barack Obama became President-elect, the chief editor of the newspaper, Temos Anastadiasis happily announced that "the era of a dominating Jewish presence in the White House is now over."
In 1995 then-young journalist Anastadiasis allowed himself public jokes about the Holocaust and was consequentially deprived of his journalist license for several months.
Head of the Central Jewish Council of Greece Moris Konstantinis announced that the community is looking for ways of making the newspaper and its chief editor answerable for hate speech.
