"Geneva initiative" in Jewish Interest?
25.12.2008
A new PR campaign is due to begin this week – "Geneva Initiative is in Jewish Interest." Its goal is to draw community attention to the necessity of using political means in solving problems, which is especially important on the threshold of a new election. The slogan "Geneva Initiative is in Jewish Interest" underscores that an agreement about a peaceful solution between Israel and the Palestinians is necessary, first and foremost, for Israel itself, and thus is within the interests of anyone who supports Israel as a Jewish, Zionist, and democratic state. Head of "Geneva Initiative" Gadi Baltyanski noted, "An election is not a show, and all of the candidates will have to meet with reality head-on. Instead of vying for the support of celebrities, it is preeminently necessary to put up for public discussion the question of making political decisions, which is the basis of a democratic state." The budget of the campaign, developed by the GPS agency, is 700 thousand shekels and includes poster panel advertising, ads placed on buses and in newspapers, including ads written in Russian. Headquarters of the "Geneva Initiative" attempted to place poster panels beyond the "green line" to show the locals the utter importance and benefits of such an agreement, but local dwellers forbade this. The press service of the "Geneva Initiative" issued a statement that the organization respects the locals’ decision and will continue its campaign within the borders of the "green line".
