Discussion on "Russian" Giyur Continues
26.12.2008
Yet another meeting of the giyur forum initiated by the "Panim" organization took place today in Ramat-Efal. Among the participants were the representatives of the Reformationist and Conservative Judaic movements, as well as representatives of the "Shatil" and "Tmura" organizations. The participants continued their discussion of this topic, important, inter alia, for the Russian citizens of Israel. As the Head of the "Shatil" Project for Jewish Pluralism Shira Ben-Sasson Furstenberg said in an interview to the IzRus portal, the pre-election period is the best time for gaining the support of future deputies from various parties, with the goal of forwarding various alternative kinds of giyur - both liberal orthodox and Reformist/Conservative. Right now the court is working on a document that will soon be presented for review to the general public. The difficult work of lobbying the document is still ahead of the forum. "One thing is certain — giyur is a sphere ready for change," notes Panim CEO Meir Yaffe.
