Military Intelligence Service: Terrorists are Preparing Unprecedented Attacks on Israel.
28.12.2008
Israel is expecting an unprecedented scale of shelling from Gaza. This assessment of the situation was made by senior representatives of the security forces after the first day of operation in the sector.
The discussion late at night on December 27 was attended by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, as well as Mossad chief Meir Dagan, SHABAK General Security Service Chief Yuval Diskin and Head of the IDF General Staff Gabi Ashkenazi. According to the sources in the Intelligence Service, the IDF operation plunged terrorists into shock, as they did not expect neither such a scale, nor such a force from the attack. However, having recovered from the shock, the rebels are making every effort to respond to IDF attack by missile fire. In addition, it is expected that militants in Judea and Samaria will make attempts to commit suicide-bombings inside Israel. According to official data, since the beginning of the Cast Lead operation, IDF has performed 180 strikes on the sector, which killed 230 militants.
In their turn, the terrorists fired more than 70 missiles to Israel. One Netivot resident, Beber Vaaknin, was killed by shelling. The military note that many residents of the south do not follow the recommendations of the logistics services and do not stay in the protected buildings.
