90 Years Later: the Turks Want to Return to Gaza

November 7, 1917, is not only the date of the Great October Socialist Revolution, but also the say the third battle for Gaza took place.
General Edmund Allenby broke the Turkish Gaza-Be'er Sheva defense line on November 2, and on November 7 he took Gaza. 12 thousand Turks were killed, 13 thousand were taken into captivity, the Turkish occupation of the eastern Mediterranean was eliminated, and Palestine fell into the rule of British mandates for several decades.
On January 1, 2009 the Al-Waqt Bahraini newspaper reported on plans for the deployment of Turkish troops in Gaza in order to "protect civilians from Israeli attacks."
The newspaper reported that visits of Turkish leadership to the Arab countries are connected precisely with these plans. Turkey hopes to establish a new international status for Gaza, which will be secured by Turkish and, possibly, Egyptian troops, as well as the EU observers.
