Israel to Share the Experience of Immortalizing Totalitarianism Victims with Ukraine

Israel is willing to share its experience on perpetuation of the memory of totalitarian regime1 victims with Ukraine, according to Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
In her interview to Deutsche Welle the Minister reflected the official position of Israel. According to her, Jerusalem considers the Famine of the 1930's to be the tragedy of Ukrainian and other peoples, caused by Joseph Stalin, which took away the lives of 7 to 10 million people.
Mrs. Livni reminded that in 2003, Israel joined the statement by 63 UN General Assembly ambassadors, who recognized Holodomor tragedy, and in 2007 supported the UN resolution regarding the provision of honors to the memory of the victims.
However, the Minister stressed that Israel can not accept the comparison of Holodomor with the Holocaust. Livni added that the theme of the Famine has been repeatedly raised at the negotiations with the Ukrainian side, at the highest level as well. For its part, said the head of the Foreign Office, Jerusalem is ready to pass on its rich experience of the perpetuation of the memory of totalitarian regimes victims to Ukraine.
