                  Russia Practically Supports Hamas

Russia voiced serious concerns about the escalation of armed confrontation after the beginning of Israel's ground operation in Gaza. Russian envoy to the UN V.I. Churkin said that "there was a need to immediately stop the massive use of force by Israel against the Gaza Strip, which has already resulted in immense casualties and suffering of the Palestinian civilian population."
Russia calls to "put an end to the armed confrontation, restore calm on both sides. This is a prerequisite to preserve the lives and security of Palestinian and Israeli people, prevent a humanitarian disaster and destabilization in the entire Middle East region."
And then begins direct support for the position of Hamas, calling an end to the blockade of Gaza. It is absolutely clear what Hamas will bring into Gaza first and foremost: it will be replenishing its arsenal of missiles for further attacks on Israeli towns.
"The time has come, finally, to raise the Israeli blockade of Gaza - isolated and scattered measures taken on a temporary basis will not help," reads the statement on the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs site. "International humanitarian law must be respected by everybody and in full scope."
And, of course, the matter of Jewish settlements has not been forgotten, either: "Israeli and Palestinian sides should without delay return to full and unconditional implementation of their obligations under the «road map» of Middle Eastern adjustment, including a halt to settlement activity and the effective fight against terrorism," the statement reads.
