Memory of Holocaust Victims Commemorated in Odessa

The ceremony was held on January 27 in Prokhorovsky park at the Memorial of the Victims of the Holocaust. Flowers of sorrow for the dead were laid at the monument. The Secretary of the Odessa city council Alexander Prokopenko, heads of regional administrations, representatives of public organizations, representatives of diplomatic agencies working in Odessa agreed to take part in the event.
"People should know and remember about the tragedy that occurred during the Second World War. The history of the Holocaust is a history of Ukraine during the war. Unfortunately, little historical research has been done on this subject. Events like this one in Odessa help preserve the memory of the victims of the Holocaust," said Chairman of the Association of Former Prisoners of Ghettos and Nazi Concentration Camps Roman Schwartzman.
In the city and Odessa region 297 thousand Jews were exterminated during the Holocaust. On the Day of Holocaust Victims Remembrance, the Association arranged the ceremony of laying flowers at the place where Jews were executed en masse during the war, on Lyustdorfskaya road. The event was held with the participation of municipal and regional authorities, in which the righteous gentiles will receive the Order "For merits". "This is a very meaningful event," believes Roman Schwartzman.
