18.02.2009
The official mission of the State of Israel is planned to be opened in the capital of the Urals region, as reported by the Sverdlovsk Ministry of International and Foreign Economic Relations (SMIFER).
This information was announced at the meeting of the Head of the region’s SMIFER Alexander Kharlov with the Head of the Emigration Department of Russia, the advisor to the Embassy of Israel to the RF Alexandra Seri. Mrs. Seri told the Minister that the Israeli side of the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Israel is planning to open in Yekaterinburg a Mission of Cultural and Information Centre at the Israeli Embassy. The advisor recalled that the first such centre was opened in Moscow in 1991, and later on in St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.
Kharlov, in turn, noted that in the Middle Urals there is a large Jewish diaspora and the locals have a great interest in the life and culture of Israel, therefore the suggestion is very relevant. The Minister expressed readiness to assist in the opening of the Centre.
