JERUSALEM (JTA) - Two Kassams fired from Gaza hit southern Israel.
The rockets fired Thursday evening landed near Sderot and Netivot, causing no injuries.
Earlier Thursday, Israeli airstrikes hit six Hamas smuggling tunnels on the Gaza border with Egypt.
The tunnels, which contained weapons and munitions, according to the Israel Defense Forces, were located about 30 miles from where two U.S. congressmen were touring damage caused during Israel's recent military invasion of Gaza.
The Israeli bombing Thursday was in response to several rockets fired at southern Israel since Wednesday night, according to the IDF spokesman.
Also Thursday, a Palestinian caught planting an explosive device near Israel's Kerem Shalom crossing with Gaza was injured by Israeli troops and taken to an Israeli hospital.
Two Kassam rockets were fired Thursday morning into the western Negev. Earlier the same morning, a rocket aimed at Israel exploded on the Palestinian side of the security fence. A mortar shell was fired Wednesday night at Israel from Gaza.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian pedestrian was killed Thursday morning after being hit by a car at a checkpoint near Jerusalem.
