On April 6 this year, Kiev city administration, taking into account the suggestions of the Jewish community, will open a museum to Shalom Aleichem. This decision was made by the Organizing Committee on preparation and celebration of 150th anniversary of birth of Shalom Aleichem, chaired by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Ivan Vasiunyk.
At the same time, the National Academy of Sciences should intensify work on preparation for the publication of selected woks by the world-famous Jewish writer who was born in Ukraine in the city of Pereyaslav (now - Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky in Kiev region).
According to the Vice Prime Minister, there is little time left before the anniversary, and the event must be a notable and important phenomenon in the life of the country.
"The personality of Shalom Aleichem, his creative contribution to the treasure of bright multi-ethnic culture of Ukraine deserves appropriate respect and honor," said Vasiunyk.
For the celebration of the birthday of the prominent Jewish writer, memorial signs will also be placed. And in March, a grand literary and artistic event will be held at Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater, also dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Shalom Aleichem.
