The Court Will Revert to the Criminal Case against the Leader of MAII
26.02.2009
Dorogomilovsky Court of Moscow will revert to the criminal case against the leader of the Movement Against Illegal Immigration Alexander Belov (Potkin), accused of inciting ethnic hatred.
The sittings have been repeatedly postponed due to poor health of the accused, reports Pravo.ru with reference to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
The reason for proceedings initiation was the statements made by them during the Day of National Unity celebration on November 4, 2008. Speaking at a rally on the Embankment of Taras Shevchenko, Potkin, according to the investigation, made offensive remarks against the authorities of the Russian Federation, "attributing them in a negative sense to the Jews," as well as provoked the people to shouting anti-Semitic slogans, anti-governmental slogans and slogans against the peoples of the Caucasus.
The MAII leader is accused under article 282 of the Criminal Code ("Inciting hatred or hostility, incitement of racial and ethnic discord, organization of an extremist community"), which provides up to five years' imprisonment.
