National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting: Take the Anti-Semite to Court, and not the TV Company

National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting reviewed the results of the unscheduled inspection of VIK Kherson TV company. The reason for inspection was the viewers' address to National Council in connection with the fact that anti-Semitic remarks had been heard on this channel.
As the representative of the television company explained, the remarks, which could be construed as offensive to other nations, were pronounced by the deputy of Kherson city council Sergei Kirichenko live. According to the National Council's conclusion, this is the reason to go to court, but not to apply sanctions to the TV company.
"If it were about a program transmitted from a recording and edited by the TV company itself, then we could accuse it of breaking the law. In this case, however, the audience has every reason to go to court, but they should charge the deputy himself," said the National Council Chairman Vitaly Shevchenko.
Because the inspection has not revealed any other violations, in particular, of the Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" (inadmissibility of inciting ethnic hatred), the results of the inspection were recommended to be taken into consideration.
