A 27-year-old man from the Jezreel Valley region was arrested on suspicion of being recruited to work for Hizbullah, police announced on Sunday.
The man, Ismail Mahmoud Sulieman, was allegedly recruited by the guerrilla group during his Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. He has been accused of trying to pass sensitive information to the organization.
Israel believes Hizbullah has an entire branch dedicated to drafting spies in Israel, particularly among its Arab citizens.
Several Israeli Arabs have been arrested in recent years over ties to the group, including an army colonel who was convicted of espionage for passing information to them.
In January, a 29-year-old Israeli Arab convicted of giving information to Hizbullah was sentenced by a Petah Tikva court to four years in jail.
Khaled Kashkush, a resident of Kalansuwa, was arrested in July upon landing at Ben-Gurion Airport on a return visit from Germany, where he had been studying for the last few years. He was subsequently indicted and convicted of contact with a foreign agent and of passing information to the enemy.
According to the charge sheet, Kashkush met with Hizbullah operatives starting in 2002 and was paid 13,000 euros for his services.
