Well-known and beloved in the FSU and beyond, the satirist writer Mikhail Zhvanetsky turns 75.
Zhvanetsky is going to celebrate his jubilee at home with his family and friends. Unlike last year, when his concert was held on March 6 in Odessa, this time the writer will spend the holiday in Moscow. "I will sit at the table with my family. I am happy to get any gifts, most importantly, that they be from the heart," Zhvanetsky said.
The writer, satirist and performer of his works, was born in Odessa on March 6, 1934 to the family of physicians. He graduated from Institute of Engineers of the Navy, worked in Odessa Sea Commercial Port. In 1958 he met Roman Kartsev, and in 1962 - Arkady Raikin, who included his works to the theater repertory, and in 1964 invited him to the theater on the position of literary manager.
In 1970, Zhvanetsky with Kartsev and Ilchenko returned to Odessa, where he created the Theater of miniatures. From 1972 to 1974 he was a director of the "Roskontsert", in the years 1981-1983 - a literary worker in Molodaya Gvardia publishing house. Zhvanetsky is one of the most popular authors of "tape culture" of the USSR of the 1970-1980s. In 1988, the writer creates the Moscow Theater of miniatures, and he still remains its permanent artistic director.
Zhvanetsky was awarded the title People's Artist of USSR (1991), People's Artist of Ukraine (1999), Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation (2001). He is a member of the Writers' Union of Russia, President of the World Club of Odessites, honorary citizen of Odessa and a member of the Presidium of the Russian Jewish Congress.
President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, in connection with the writer’s 75th birthday, signed a decree on awarding him the "Order of Merit before the Country." Zhvanetsky's miniatures are known to every Russian, and every Russian-speaking Israeli. He is also known for his work as author of miniatures for Roman Kartsev and Viktor Ilchenko, and even earlier - for the theater of Arkady Raikin.
It is also reported that President Medvedev congratulated Mikhail Zhvanetsky on the anniversary and awarding of the Order not personally, but on the phone.
