Trial on Skinhead Leader Resumes in Novosibirsk

The trial on the leader of a group of skinheads Michael Rodoshkevich will be resumed today in Novosibirsk regional court. He is accused of creating a group which attacked the natives of Central Asia who came to Siberia to work.
According to the court, the case of Rodoshkevich is tried separately because earlier he had been found mentally ill. The disorder developed when he was already in custody, and he underwent compulsory treatment.
The members of the group - young workers and students - were arrested in 2002 after the brutal beating of a Tajikistan citizen, to whom they had inflicted 18 stab wounds. The doctors were able to save his life. The investigation also proved the group's involvement in a number of similar crimes.
According to the Judge Tatyana Shakhova, the defendants were found guilty of robbery on national grounds with the use of cold arms within an organized criminal group. When passing the sentence, the court took into consideration that the offensive comments regarding the nationality of the defendants had not been of public character. The court also took into account the fact that several years have passed since the commission of the crimes, during which the defendants, who were subscribed under arrest, did not commit any further offenses.
Three participants of this group of skinheads in October 2008 were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 4.5 to 6 years. Five other members of the group received suspended sentences because of their state of health and the fact that they had been juveniles when committing the crimes.
