Special Bureau on Relations with the Jews in the CIS countries has submitted a report indicating a sharp decline in the repatriation from these countries to Israel. However, the report also predicts a new wave of emigration from the CIS.
The report was published, as if intentionally, right after the promise to give the position of the Minister of Immigrant Absorption to Sofa Landver from Israel Beiteinu. The report by "Nativ" is written in the spirit of "a favourable moment for the growth of the number of repatriates to Israel."
"The favourable moment" is the worsening economic situation in the CIS countries - especially in Ukraine. This factor should, in the opinion of the staff of "Nativ", push a large number of eligible for Israeli citizenship to take advantage of their right.
From the report by "Nativ" also follows that the number of Jews in the CIS countries is 261 thousand, and another 900 thousand fall under the definition of "people with the right of return" under the current Israeli Law of Return, namely those people whose grandfather was a Jew.
"Nativ" recommends to allocate additional 16 million shekels for the absorption purposes already in 2009 budget. The same amount has already been promised by the Jewish Agency for Israel.
