First Winner of Olympiad Is Kapitolina Starikova from Kazan
30.03.2011, Education Kapitolina Starikova from Kazan (Russia) has become the first winner of the International ORT robotics Olympiad in Dnepropetrovsk.
Kapitolina made a robot which can make and give food to a dog. When a dog touches a sensor with its nose the machine mixes food, heats and serves it. If the dog asks for more food than necessary then the system gives a small snack.
The members of the jury were greatly impressed with the girl’s robot, and it was unanimously found the best.
According to Anna Michurina, head of ORT in Odessa, Kapitolina is a very gifted girl. Anna finds it important that a young girl won this important competition since the gender disproportion is still very big in robotics though recently girls show more and more interest to it.
Kapitolina Starikova studies at ORT-Mishpahteinu school, 6th grade.
