The Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine Teaches Jews to Bless the Sun Correctly

Due to the fact that the year 2009 contains a certain day when a rare blessing of the Sun is said (this blessing is read only once every 28 years), the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine issued a special brochure, which provides all the necessary information and texts for this rite in Jewish communities throughout the country.
The booklet is produced and compiled by the Chief Rabbi of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia Menachem-Mendel Tayhman. It is attractively designed and printed in mass circulation for the distribution in all the 170 communities - members of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, headed by Rabbi Meir Stambler.
Director of the Federation Alina Teplitskaya says: "This booklet is in very high demand because most of the Jews of Ukraine have never participated in this ceremony. For the last time the sun was blessed in 1981, in the midst of stagnation under Brezhnev, when any manifestation of Jewish life was followed by severe repression. We hope that, thanks to our brochure, tens of thousands of Jews will be able to perform for the first time this solemn and beautiful ritual."
