Russia Will Supply Syria with Planes and Missiles for Hizbollah

Russia will supply Syria with the most modern aircraft and missiles that could be acquired by the Hizbollah and destabilize the situation in Lebanon.
This is stated in the report submitted by the Head of the US Army Defense Intelligence Agency Lt.-Gen. Michael D. Maples.
According to the report submitted to the Senate, Moscow and Damascus signed an agreement for the sale of MiG-29 type M and M2, MiG-31, as well as medium-range missiles SAX-17.
According to the report, some of the missiles Syria intends to give to the Hezbollah, in the framework of support provided by Syria to the Shiah movement, and preparing for a confrontation with Israel.
According to Israeli experts, Syria is about to increase substantially its military capabilities. Itay Shafir, head of the Middle East Arming project, Institute for Strategic Studies, stressed that aircraft MIG-29 is designed for the air war and flights short distances, and the MiG-31 is "the fastest fighter airplane available today."
"The signing of agreements of this kind demonstrates the intention of Syria to update its fleet of military aircraft," said Itay Shafir.
Despite these intentions, the United States continue to change the line of attitude towards Damascus. According to the publication "Al-Khalij", published in the United Arab Emirates, the new U.S. president Barack Obama will meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
This meeting is scheduled for July, when Italy will be holding a G-8 meeting. "I shall be very glad to meet the U.S. president, and this meeting willl mark new change of the attitude of Obama’s administration towards the situation in the region," said the Syrian president.
