                  Medvedev Promises to Support Palestine

On Monday, April 6, the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev had talks with the Palestinian National Administration President Mahmoud Abbas.
According to the official website of the Russian government kremlin.ru, during the meeting Medvedev assured Abbas that Russia intends to continue its support for a Middle East settlement and establishment of the Palestinian state.
The parties discussed the preparation of the forthcoming Moscow conference on the Middle East, initiated by Russia and supported by the Palestinian Autonomy. The Russian leader thanked Abbas for the efforts of the Palestinian side to increase the participation of the Russian state in the confessional dialogue, as well as for the provision of certain plots into the property of Russia. In particular, last year, the Russian Federation received four parcels of land in Bethlehem and Jericho.
After the meeting with the Russian leader, Mahmoud Abbas gave an interview to the Russian newspaper "Vremya Novostei", in which he mentioned that Russia was going to provide the security services of the Palestinian Authority with helicopters and armored vehicles. "Soon, these armored vehicles will arrive in Palestine," he said.
The question whether this supply meant softening of the position of Israel was answered by the Palestinian leader in the following way: "I can only repeat that these machines will soon be with us. And the helicopters will arrive soon." On Tuesday, April 7, Mahmoud Abbas will meet the Prime Minister of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
