Blessing of the sun in Bondi

MORE than a thousand members of Sydney’s Jewish community gathered in Waverley Park, Bondi, on Wednesday April 8 at 8.30am to celebrate Bircat Hachamah - the blessing of the sun - that occurs once every 28 years.
The ceremony was organised by the Yeshiva Centre, NSW Chabad Headquarters.
Rabbi Pinchus Feldman, head of the Chabad Movement in NSW, led the crowd in prayer and Chasidic melodies and spoke about the significance of the ceremony.
Commenting on the large turnout, Rabbi Feldman said: “This unique ritual has connected members of our community in remembering the Divine miracles of daily existence.”
