The economic ties between Israel and Belarus are getting stronger. On April 22, a press conference dedicated to the Independence Day of Israel took place in Minsk. The Israeli Ambassador to Belarus Edward Shapiro said that cooperation
between the two countries is being reinforced in all directions - in politics, economy and culture.
According to Israeli statistics, in 2008 the trade turnover between Belarus and Israel totaled to 28 million U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, according to Belarusian statistics, the trade turnover in 2008 amounted to 65 million dollars. The
discrepancy stems from the fact that Belarus includes in this figure the Israeli goods which come through third countries.
Edward Shapiro emphasized: the cooperation of Belarus with Israel is extremely fruitful. "The Israelis are very mobile - they are ready to travel to any part of the world. They gladly come to Belarus, especially due to the fact that there are practically no language barriers."
Among the industries in which cooperation will be particularly intense, Shapiro named hi-tech, tourism and agriculture. In particular, one of the leading Israeli hi-tech companies decided to invest 550 million euros in the
construction of the Park of hi-tech enterprises in Belarus.
In the year 2008, Israel was visited by 18,000 Belarusian citizens - by 70% more than in 2007.
