Visa Regime Between Belarus and Israel to be Cancelled in 2010

The statement was made by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Israel to Belarus Edward Shapira today, as reported by the correspondent of
BELTA. According to the Ambassador, in November 2008 the consular negotiations between Belarus and Israel took place, where the issue of the abolition of visas
between the two countries was discussed. A similar visa-free regime already exists between Israel and Russia. "In the first phase, we plan to cancel the consular fees, and I think that in 2010, or perhaps sooner, we can introduce a visa-free regime between our countries," said the diplomat.
Edward Shapira said that the cost of Israeli visas in all countries is 17 USD, and the cost of Belarusian visas for Israelis - more than 100 USD. But he noted that a year ago, the Government of Israel has issued a decree to develop a plan of visas abolition with the CIS countries, in order to enhance tourism. It was also suggested to abolish the consular fees. "These are two different programs that are not related, and in the coming months, the consular fee is to be cancelled. In parallel, the development of the visa abolition program by the year 2010 is in progress," explained the Ambassador to the BelTA agency.
