Latvian Jews Request Help for Cleaning Memorial

The Jewish community of Latvia requests help in cleaning the cemetery. The relevant application was filed to the authorities of Riga. Press Secretary of Riga City Council Laura Klyavinya explained that the Jewish community asked the city authorities to assist in cleaning the square on Dzirnavu Street, where a monument to the victims of the Holocaust stands on the place of a burnt synagogue.
"Despite the fact that this plot is privately owned, it is very important for the city. Therefore, the Committee will request support from the Riga City Council. The memorial at the site of the burnt synagogue is very important for
our country, and on July 4 - the day of remembrance of the genocide of Jewish people - memorial events are held all over the world, so regardless of legal status, the city should be responsible for putting things in order," said the
head of the Environment Protection Committee Dainis Evans.
