Israeli actress blazes Hollywood trail in 'Angels and Demons'

After Noa Tishby helped make Matthew McConaughey's latest film a box-office hit this past weekend and Gal Gadot boosted Vin Diesel's latest installment of Fast and Furious, Ayelet Zurer became the latest Israeli actress to join the list of Hollywood success stories.
Last weekend, Zurer joined fellow cast members at the premier of the "Angels and Demons" in Rome, the sequel to the wildly popular "The Da Vinci Code." The film, which is based on the best-selling book, also sparked criticism from the Catholic Church.
Zurer appeared at the premier alongside co-stars Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor and director Ron Howard. Her work in the film marks a milestone for Israeli actresses whose appearances in major Hollywood motion pictures are usually limited to a few cameos and even fewer lines.
Zurer was cast in the film as the lead female role alongside Hanks, an Oscar-winner and acting heavyweight in his own right.
"Angels and Demons" is an impressive addition to Zurer's resume, which includes a role in Steven Spielberg's "Munich"; the film "Adam Resurrected," in which she acted alongside Jeff Goldblum; and a key part in the original hit series "In Treatment," which was later sold to HBO and re-made into an American version that has garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success.
Zurer is also believed to be the first Israeli actress to break the million-dollar threshold. Industry sources believe Zurer's salary for "Angels and Demons" reached the seven-figure mark. Gal Gadot's earnings for "Fast and Furious 4" are estimated at no more than $100,000.
