Egypt official 'reminds' Israel of its war crimes against Arabs

The Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament on Thursday "reminded" his counterpart in Jerusalem of "war crimes" Israel had committed against Arabs in response to a letter from him comparing Iran's president to Adolf Hitler.
Speaker Ahmad Fathi Sorour mentioned military operations in which "thousands of Palestinians were killed," such as the Deir Yassin massacre perpetrated by Jewish militiamen during the War of Independence in 1948 and the Sabra and Shatila massacre perpetrated by Israel's Phalangist allies during the Lebanon War in 1982.
In the letter to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, Sorour also wrote of Israel's recent offensive against Hamas in Gaza, "in which 4,000 people died and another 6,000 were injured, 40% of whom were women and children who were massacred by the Israeli war machine which used illegal white phosphorous shells."
Sorour did, however, preface the text with an expression of sympathy for the Jewish people in the wake of last week's Holocaust Memorial Day. He later said crimes against humanity have also been carried out under the pretext of fighting terror.
On the memorial day last week, Rivlin sent a letter to speakers of parliaments worldwide, stating that "the hate expressed by the President of Iran is a warning to all humanity: We risk seeing a repetition of the Holocaust and it will be brought about by people like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad."
Referring to Ahmadinejad's anti-Israel speech at the Durban II UN conference on racism in Switzerland, Rivlin wrote that "73 years after the Berlin Olympics, yesterday the world witnessed the return of Adolf Hitler."
