A memorial cemetery of Soviet warriors and liberators was desecrated in Warsaw yesterday, as reported by a Russian Embassy representative. Unknown attackers set fire to several dozen wreaths, which had been set on Friday at the main obelisk to Soviet soldiers during a ceremony on the territory of the memorial cemetery. All wreaths were burned to ashes, also causing damage to the obelisk.
The wreaths and bouquets had been laid by the Embassy of Russia in Poland, foreign diplomats, the Polish and Soviet veterans of World War II. According to preliminary data, the wreaths were poured over with an inflammable liquid, and then set on fire. The Soviet and Polish veterans who arrived at the memorial became witnesses of the desecration.
