Haifa and Odessa - Twin Cities in the Past and the Future

As part of expanding cultural ties between the sister cities of Haifa and Odessa, tomorrow in the foyer of the concert hall "Auditorium" in Haifa (ha-Nasi prospect, 140), a solemn opening of the exhibition "Odessa. The beginning of the twentieth century" will take place.
The opening ceremony will be attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine in Israel Igor Timofeev, and deputy mayor of Haifa, Julia Shtraym.
Many prominent Zionist leaders, founders of the State of Israel, were born or lived in Odessa. Dizengof, Bialik, Chernihovsky, Jabotinsky, Ahad Ha-Am, Pinsker, Druyanov - having gone to the land of ancestors, these people took with
them not only love for Odessa, but also the experience of urban construction, the organization of the municipal services, cultural traditions. It was a solid link between the State of Israel and Odessa.
With the assistance of the Mayor's office of Odessa, the Odessa Museum of Local History has collected various materials and documents that describe Odessa and
everything for what this city was known 100 years ago.
Prepared specifically for exhibitions in Israel, th materials constitute a historic insight into Odessa of the early 20th century and present the photographs of people who had lived in Odessa a century ago, the buildings and
the panorama of the city at the time.
The next point in the development of relations between the twin cities will be the opening of the exhibition of the collection of photographs with views of Haifa, provided by the Mayor's office of the northern capital. The exhibition will be opened at the end of May this year in Odessa.
These are 30 selected images by the photographer Zvi Rogger, accumulated during his work in the municipality of Haifa and included in the photo album "Modern Haifa". The photographs capture the city and its residents. The exhibition will be held at the Exhibition Hall of the City Council of Odessa. The exhibition "Odessa. The beginning of the twentieth century" will last until May 26, 2009, and afterward it will be moved to the office of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Haifa.
