Belarus Monument to Ghetto Prisoners Desecrated

Yesterday, criminal proceedings were launched in Brest because of the desecration of the monument to ghetto prisoners, located in the city center at the intersection of Dziarzhynsk and Kuibyshau Streets.
According to the Chairman of Brest Jewish Community Boris Bruk, the monument was desecrated at night from May 9 to 10.
Mr. Bruk learned about the accident from activists of the community in the morning of May 10, and informed the city executive committee, the police and the information and culture center of the Israeli Embassy in Belarus on May 11.
The vandals burned all wreaths and flowers at the monument; the monument itself became sooty, covered with something like tar.
"Law enforcement officers were working at the site yesterday. They said a criminal case would be instigated on this fact," said Bruk. "Only those who can’t be called human are able to commit such an unprecedented act of vandalism while we are marking an anniversary of the victory over German Nazi invaders.
This monument was erected in memory of 34 000 Brest residents, slaughtered by the Nazis for being Jewish. Insulting their memory means killing them one more time."
