14.05.2009
The Israeli Association in support of children-repatriates is confident, based on profound research, that a strong knowledge of the language of the country of origin among the children of returnees enhances their relationship with families and with their new country and culture. The Association strongly promotes the study of the Russian language in Israel, and this year it has launched an international project dedicated to writing a textbook of Russian for children who were born in the Diaspora or immigrated at a young age, who are familiar with the Russian language at the family level. At the head of the project was Dr. Eli Zarhin, the team of authors was headed by Dr. Marina Niznik from Tel Aviv University. The first textbook in the world of this kind, "Russian without Borders" is designed on the grant of the "Russian World" foundation and the other sponsors. It was reviewed at the Moscow State University (MSU, Russia), Columbia University (the United States) and the Open University (Israel). Anybody can download the textbook.
The official presentation of the textbook will be held at the Russian Cultural Center in Tel-Aviv on May 25, 2009 at 5 pm.
