Defense Ministers of Israel and Kazakhstan Discuss Cooperation

The Ministers agreed to hold extensive consultations on enhancing cooperation in the course of the possible visits of the heads of defense ministers to Astana or Jerusalem, as well as to eliminate misunderstandings in connection with the faults of the military equipment sold to Kazakhstan.
According to the Kazakh media, the Minister of Defense of the Kazakh Republic Danial Akhmetov and the Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak hd a telephone conversation yesterday, on May 20. The initiator of the conversation was the
Kazakh side. The Ministers discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation between the countries on the background of the visit of Israeli President Shimon Peres
to Astana on June 30 this year. In addition, the parties agreed to undertake extended consultations in the nearest future, aimed at enhancing the interaction during the possible visits of the heads of defense ministers to Astana or Jerusalem.
"Ehud Barak informed his Kazakh counterpart that in the near future, a senior representative of the Ministry of Defense of Israel will be sent to Astana. In the course of his visit, the issues of removing the faults in the artillery systems, supplied by Israeli companies, will be discussed. They will also raise the issue of the confirmation by independent experts of high quality of the
products of Israeli defence industry, including the IMI and Soltam companies," the press service of the Ministry of Defense reported.
As the IzRus portal had reported before, Kazakhstan signed a contract with these companies for the purchase of artillery systems "Aibat," "Nayza," and "Semser." A little later, during the trial shooting, some of them showed defects, which the Israeli side promised to fix as soon as possible. According to the "Kazinform" information agency, the head of the IMI company Avi Felder assured Akhmetov that its experts will be sent to Kazakhstan shortly to deal with the problems in "Nayza" systems.
