Old Lithuanian Jewish Cemetery Cared For

The Government of Lithuania approved of the conclusions of the Department of Cultural Heritage concerning the old Jewish cemetery in Vilnius district of Shnipishkes.
First of all, the draft said the borders of the ancient cemetery were indisputable, and that safety zones have been placed on the territory which might have belonged to the cemetery, but the status which is still under discussion. Presumably, investment in such buffer zones will be limited.
The territory of the old Jewish cemetery in Shnipishkes area was suggested to legalize in the special and detailed plans of Vilnius.
Vilnius municipality recommends proclaiming an international competition for the perpetuation of the ancient cemetery up to May 1, 2010.
