23.05.2009
In Donetsk, another seminar organized by Ukrainian Center for the Holocaust studies "Tkuma" took place. The seminar was dedicated to perpetuating the memory of Holocaust victims and a number of other topical issues related to the study of the history of genocide of the Jewish people during the Second World War.
The seminar was held at the Jewish Community Center in Donetsk, and attracted great interest of the Jewish community and Jewish media.
The seminar participants paid much attention to the project of collecting information about those who perished during the Holocaust in Ukraine. This project is now being implemented by the Israeli organization "Yad Va Shem" with
the active support of Ukrainian Jewish structures. It is led by the Israeli Boris Maftsir, who introduced to the participants of the seminar to the structure and results of the project, as well as presented his documentaries connected with the history of the Holocaust of European Jewry.
The Director of the "Tkuma" centre Igor Schupak warmly supported his Israeli colleague and encouraged everybody to participate actively in the process of reconstructing historical evidence, so that that none of the murdered remains anonymous and unknown.
Participants of the seminar also visited several towns in the Donetsk region, and were made familiar with the efforts on perpetuating the memory of the Holocaust carried out by the regional Jewish community.
