Fragments of Old Torah Found in Brest

Fragments of an old Torah were found in a private residence in Brest.
On the 22nd of May, the owners of the house gave the rarities to the Chairman of the Administration of the Jewish community of Brest Boris Bruk, and a rabbi of the CHABAD movent Haim Rabinovich.
As Boris Bruk said to the Agency of Jewish News, the man found them in his private residence on Shevchenko street, in the former Shpanovichy suburb.
One of the fragment of the Torah scroll was buried in the yard, and another was in the attic.
According to the current owners of the house, the fragments seem to have been used by the former owners to cover the floor of the attick, and were partially burned in a fire. They do not know how precisely the scrolls got to the house.
"This Torah was probably written in the end of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century. It is quite possible that this was once a prayer house," Bruk explained. "One of the fragments of the scrolls was damaged by fire, but the other is rather well-preserved. A decision on their further fate will be made after the study of these rarities by specialists. It is possible that one of these fragments will be given to the local museum, and the other left in the Brest synagogue."
Bru noted that this was the first such find in Brest.
