Moscovite Put on Probation for Inciting Inter-ethnic Enmity

Dorogomilovskiy district court delivered its verdict against Alexander Potkin.
He was found guilty of inciting hatred and enmity, as well as the humiliation of human beings on the grounds of nationality, which he had publicly committed with the help of media (ch.1 Art.282 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to the materials of the case, in November 2007, Potkin was at the rally, held to celebrate the Day of National Unity. In his campaign speech, he made statements which do not correspond to moral and ethical standards, the correspondent of the Open news agency reports.
The investigation concluded that the speech delivered by Potkin adversely commented on certain nationalities, as well as called on the Russians to exercise active hostility towards the Jews, the peoples of Central Asia and Transcaucasia. As reported by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the court sentenced Alexander Potkin to 1.5 years imprisonment suspended with probation of 2 years.
