Prosecutors Decide Whether to Investigate Case of Lithuanian Partisans Called Killers of Jews

Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office shall determine whether pre-trial investigation should begin in connection with the fact that the Lithuanian partisans (resistants - BNS) were identified as the murderers of Jews.
The Prosecutor General Algimantas Valantinas on Friday confirmed to journalists that prosecutors have received an appeal of members of parliament with a demand to start the pre-trial investigation in this regard, but have not yet decided whether it should be done.
"We received the statement of the Sejm members, but sometimes a brief appeal is not enough. We need to find out the details so that one can begin pre-trial investigation. (...) Now that statement is very concise, some clarifications are needed. The work, which will help us decide, is in progress," said Valantinas.
Prosecutors did not disclose the sources of expected clarifications - Lithuanian or Israeli ones. According to Deputy Prosecutor General Gintaras Jasaitis, the decision to begin pre-trial investigation must appear within 20 days.
On Tuesday, the media wrote that on the website of Association of Lithuanian Jews in Israel, the names of hundreds of Lithuanians, allegedly involved in the genocide of Jewish people, have been posted. These Lithuanian partisans are called sadistic and cruel murderers by the site editors, and there is information on the crimes against Jews they were involved in.
On Wednesday, a group of parliamentarians addressed the Prosecutor General's Office with an appeal for criminal liability for, they said, slander of those who deserve well of Lithuania, the famous Lithuanian partisans - Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas, Lionginas Valiukevicis-Dzukas, Juozas Barzda-Bradauskas, Juozas Luksas-Daumantas.
Members of the Parliament call on the President of Lithuania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government institutions to take diplomatic action to prevent distribution of baseless accusations and stirring up discord.
